COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course will focus on the extension of the number system to a complex field, elementary functions using multiple representations (graphical, numerical, algebraic), including quadratic, polynomial, rational, radical, exponential, logarithmic, trigonometric functions, and the study of probability and statistics. Problem solving with be emphasized throughout the course.
REQUIRED MATERIALS
Students will need a three-ring binder with loose-leaf paper (for organizing handouts, tests, homework etc.), a scientific calculator and a pencil are brought to every class. Graph paper, a ruler and colored pencils are also highly recommended. A scientific calculator is required for this course, however a graphing calculator (TI-83/TI-84) are strongly recommended as they aid in developing a strong relationship between algebraic and graphical representations.
GRADING POLICY
· Assessments (Tests/Quizzes) 80%
· Homework/Classwork 20%
ASSIGNMENTS
Diligent completion of daily homework is essential for success in this course. Unless stated otherwise, homework assignments are due at the beginning of the next class and will be accepted late only for half credit. Producing high quality work should always be of the most importance. Homework is graded based on an effort scale of 1-4.
TESTS & QUIZZES
While a test or quiz is being administered all books and other materials must be closed and stored under tables or desks unless otherwise specified. All students are expected to remain absolutely silent during tests/quizzes unless asking the teacher a question. Any students talking to one another, regardless of the topic of conversation, will receive a zero as a grade for the assessment. Copying or cheating will result in a zero for the test and a discipline referral for scholastic dishonesty.
ABSENCES/MAKE-UPS
Students absent when a classwork or homework assignment is due will have one day for each day absent to submit the assignment for full credit. After that time period students will only be able to receive half credit otherwise. Tests and quizzes are scheduled and announced well in advance. If you are absent on test/quiz day, you will be expected to make up the assessment within a week. If an assessment is not made up after an absence it will be entered in as a zero. It is the responsibility of the student to submit any late or missed assessments.
CLASSROOM RULES
· Be Prompt: arrive to class on time and ready to work.
· Be Prepared: students should come to every class with their binder, book, calculator and a pencil.
· Be Polite: Be respectful of both myself and the other students.
· Be Productive: Work to the best of your ability during every class and you will achieve success.
